In France, the qualification of tourist guide (guide-interprète/conférencier) is area -specific.
On a regional level:
A « guide-interprète régional » is entitled to guide in a specific region.
On a national leve:
A « guide-interprète national » and/or a « conférencier national » are entitled to guide throughout the entire country.

Professional licenses
In France, the profession of tourist guide is protected by law. French authorities provide holders of titles and diplomas with a badge and a professional license, stating the holder’s area of qualification and authorized foreign languages.
Licensed tourist guides are required by law to wear their badge when conducting tours in museums and historical monuments.
The logos of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture and Communication are printed on the professional license and on the badge.
