National Qualification

 

To obtain the diploma of Guide-interprète national [GIN] one must
     - have perfect mastery of French and at least two foreign languages
     - undergo one year of university training at one of the institutions of higher education to prepare for the diploma of Guide-interprète national

Upon obtaining a university diploma, candidates receive their professional license.

Studies are organized in modules corresponding to an annual schedule of at least 600 hours of classes and directed work, supplemented by activities in a professional environment, including a mandatory internship of eight to twelve weeks.

   
   
Regional Qualification

 

The Guide-interprète régional [GIR] is entitled to guide in a specific region of France.

To get the title of regional tourist guide, the candidate must pass an examination organized by the regional authorities (Préfet de Région)

To pass the examination, one must:
     - have perfect mastery of French and at least one foreign language
     - hold a national or state diploma demonstrating completion of a two-year cycle of higher studies

The examination is given at least once every two years.

Passing the examination grants the title of guide-interprète régional and the delivery of a professional license.
